VTB Starts Accepting Mir Cards in the Republic of Kazakhstan

VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) is the first bank in the country to have successfully kicked off a project for accepting Mir cards. Now Mir cardholders have an opportunity to check the balance and withdraw cash at any of the bank’s ATM or cash desk.

The service is available for any Russian bank’s Mir cardholder . Cash can be withdrawn at the VTB Kazakhstan ATMs in Kazakhstan tenge. Fee is charged in accordance with the internal rates of the banking institution that issued the card.   

“Mir Payment System is popular in Russia, and it is important for us to make our customer service more comfortable and convenient,” says Dmitry Zabello, Chairman of the Management Board, VTB Bank JSC (Kazakhstan). “Over a period of 8 months in 2018, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia has exceeded $11 bln, and it may reach $18 bln by the year end, which is a huge economic potential. In the light of the XV Forum of Interregional Cooperation of Kazakhstan and Russia, held in Petropavlovsk, that resulted in many bilateral agreements aimed at increasing the tourist flow, the increase of opportunities for Russians to be served in Kazakhstan banks is of high importance.”

“The service implemented with the support of the National Payment Card System will enhance the financial comfort for Russian bank customers staying in Kazakhstan. Currently, the VTB Bank’s (Kazakhstan) network consists of 85 ATMs and 40 bank branch terminals located in all regions of the country,” comments Ilnar Shaimardanov, Vice President, Head of Subsidiaries’ Retail Business Development at VTB Bank AG.

This project has been implemented together with VTB Bank, one of the key partners of Mir Payment System and one of the largest Russian acquirers, that today is deploying a network of its devices for Mir card acceptance in still another country,” says Maxim Lazyrin, Business Director of NSPK (Mir Payment System operator).

Over 320 banks have already become Mir participants in Russia. VTB Group started issuing national payment cards in the fourth quarter of 2016. Over 9.2 mln cards havealready been issued by VTB since. Their holders have access to a wide range of payment services: fee-free cash withdrawals at the entire ATM network of the VTB Group, cash-to-card, purchase (utilities, telephone services, transport, etc.), e-commerce transactions. In addition, customers can use the card for government disbursement transactions (salaries, pensions and other social benefits).
