MIR Payment System, RNCB Bank and the Government of the Republic of Crimea Entered into an Agreement on the Launch of the Crimean's Card Project
Today, May 25, 2018, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the MIR Payment System, RNCB Bank and the Government of the Republic of Crimea have entered into an agreement on the launch of the Crimean's Card project.
The Head of the MIR Payment System Vladimir Komlev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RNCB Bank Mikhail Yakunin and the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov signed the document.
The agreement provides for a long-term cooperation under a unique project for the region, which involves enhancement of the MIR bank card capabilities. The basic service to be implemented on the Crimean's Card will be a MIR cashless fare system. The national card will be used for payment when travelling by all types of public transport. This step will be completed in 2019, whereupon other non-financial services will be integrated stepwise.
Crimea became one of the first regions in Russia, where the MIR Payment System naturally gained widespread use. In addition, milestone projects were implemented on the basis of national cards in the region in the shortest possible time. This became possible due to the support of the Government of the Republic and the largest bank of the Crimea Peninsula, RNCB being among TOP-5 MIR card issuers. "We hope for the project popularity as Crimeans always make extensive use of MIR cards. According to our data, in April 2018, 902,400 interbank transactions were performed in the region," stated the Head of the MIR Payment System Vladimir Komlev.
"This project is another confirmation of our strategic partnership with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea and the MIR Payment System. Our bank is going to invest intensively to set up a full-featured system granting access for Crimeans to transport, medical, state and other services with the MIR bank card and an automated accounting system of their rendering by the Republic of Crimea," stated Chairman of the Board of Directors of RNCB Bank Mikhail Yakunin.
"Crimean's Card is a vitally important and large-scale project that will significantly increase opportunities of the residents of our region for gaining access to advanced digital technologies," said the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov. "Execution of the agreement will contribute to the implementation of the May Executive Order On National Goals and Strategic Objectives of the Russian Federation through to 2024 in terms of introducing digital technologies in the economy and social sphere."
